Bryan Olson is Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Charles Schwab Investment Advisory, Inc. (“CSIA”). He leads the business planning, risk oversight, and trading and operations teams. He also serves as a member of the Windhaven Strategies Portfolio Management Team. Bryan served in similar roles for Windhaven Investment Management, Inc. (“Windhaven”) and ThomasPartners, Inc. (“ThomasPartners”), prior to the merger of those firms into CSIA in April of 2018. Prior to Windhaven and ThomasPartners, Bryan was Senior Vice President and Head of the Portfolio Consulting Group at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. (Schwab) consisting of over 400 financial professionals who provided asset allocation and investment guidance to clients holding combined assets of more than $40 billion in Schwab Private Client. Prior to that, he led teams in the Schwab Center for Financial Research that conducted asset allocation and investment manager research, and contributed to the development of Schwab’s quantitative mutual fund rating system. He has served on Schwab’s Investment Strategy Council, the firm’s Advice Policy Committee and also on the Investment Committee of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America from 2008 to 2010.
Bryan's other business activities include management of trading and operations functions across a number of additional Schwab affiliates. His views and analyses of investment issues have been published in the Journal of Financial Planning and the Research Foundation of the CFA Institute. He has also been cited in media such as The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and BusinessWeek.
Bryan earned a B.S. in Finance from Weber State University, served six years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation.
